A recent survey by CareerBuilder.com has found that romance is flourishing in Canadian offices! The survey found that 31% of Canadian workers claimed they had dated someone they worked with at least once in their career. A further 11% said they had been romantically involved with a co-worker on two occasions during their working lives.

The website attributed the high number of co-worker romances to factors like the poor economy which has increased the hours many people are spending at work.

They also said negative connotations attached to workplace romances are being eroded, “Workplace relationships no longer carry the stigma they once did, as 34 per cent of workers said they aren’t keeping their romance a secret. However, it is the responsibility of the individuals to understand company policy and make sure they adhere to it.” Rosemary Haefner, CareerBuilder.

As a company that operates serviced offices we probably spend more time in different workplaces than most so we were delighted to hear the news! Fingers the trend will migrate to this side of the Atlantic!

We love finding examples of the coolest offices around to share with everyone here on our blog. This week we came across the Ogilvy and Mather’s offices in Guangzhou, China.

The offices were designed by M Moser and Associates with the brief of creating an environment that would inspire creativity among Ogilvy’s employees. The designers came up with a theme called a ‘carnival of ideas’ which features giant toy soldiers, bright lights and stylish contemporary furniture. As you can see from the photos the place is certainly inspiring!

If there’s anyone in your office who longs for the days of Windows 95 and 3.5 inch floppy disks then this could the perfect gift for them. These cleverly designed post-it notes are designed to look exactly like old floppy disks. Although these will be perfect for jotting down phone numbers and snippets of information they won’t be any use at storing computer files or drivers!

In most offices we’ve been to there’s usually always at least one clumsy person who always manages to knock over drinks on important documents and equipment. If you know someone like this in your office then this spillage preventing cup holder could be perfect for them.

The bottom of the cup holder features a strong sucker that attaches itself to the desk, with the cup safely placed inside the holder it’s impossible, for even the most least self-aware person, to knock it over.
